Chapter 3 - Another civilization, another race

The Herodians, residing on the planet Vega in the Lyra constellation, have a violent and destructive past. More interestingly they have a very important role in which the story of RF will play out.

Herodians, by nature, are a very aggressive race with an evil reputation for destroying other creatures and plundering their resources. Entire galaxies formed an alliance in order to survive the cruel reign of the Herodians.
A new start
The Taurus constellation, as it became known, had established power that could rival the might of the Herodians and guarded itself against the Herodians' cruelty and aggressive nature.

The Herodians declared war on the races within the alliance, a war that lasted tens of thousands of years. The balance of power never shifted and the stalemate continued. With the bloodshed and death toll ever rising, something had to be done to secure victory…

The Herodian civilisation consumed resources at a rapidly increasing rate, far faster than they were producing. However the shortage of resources posed a significant problem in the development and maintenance of the civilisation.

This resource problem was resolved through an interesting method developed by the Herodians. By scattering Herodian engineered creatures throughout the planets they controlled, vital resources could be harvested. It was inevitable that the human inhabited galaxy would draw interest to the Herodians. Especially now as humans were growing in power and technology, however the biggest surprise to the Herodians was that this wasn't their first encounter with humans. What was baffling the Herodians was how mankind had survived from their earlier intervention, an intervention that had the Herodian's planting a biological weapon on Earth centuries ago. No other race had survived previous attacks with this weapon up until then

The Herodians manufactured a new virus, which was now a third generation strain, and more powerful then any previous incarnation. This new biological weapon had been used in the war with the Taurus constellation and humans throughout the allied territories of the Taurus constellation died, oblivious to the real cause of their plight.

The Herodian people had no doubt that the Human galaxy would soon be theirs for the taking. However, events did not turn out the way they had anticipated. The majority of human civilisations were obliterated, but a small number of resilient humans in various sectors survived and began to develop new weapons to resist the new strain of the virus…
